The 2014 wedding season is upon us! First up… Jake and Jenna. 🙂
In honor of the big event this weekend, I thought it appropriate to finally post their engagement session from the end of last year. 🙂 Alli once again joined Linsey and I as we explored some of our favorite spots in downtown Denver.
Jake and Jenna are passionate people who clearly love each other deeply. They have a taste for art and creativity, along with a profound sense of meaning. That sense of meaning is making an appearance in all the little details that have gone into the wedding planning. (Examples to come in their wedding post!)
They’re so great to work with because, along with being fantastic people, the photography matters to them. They’re not just after ‘cool’ pictures, but pictures that tell their story in a captivating way. As a photographer, I’m constantly trying to balance creating images that are interesting with images that have a point and communicate meaning. For this reason, working with Jake and Jenna is an absolute gift!
I love my job. 🙂
This is another one of those sessions that reminds me why I love my job: we had a great time, I love these pictures, and I feel honored to work with such amazing people. 🙂
Believe it or not, we had a hard time finding snow for this session. It’s weird to write that as I look out the window onto our north facing front yard, currently covered in 4 feet of painfully shoveled snow that will be with us into June.
Miles and Megan are brilliant, beautiful, and fun people. I love watching them together. Clearly competitive yet deeply for each other. I’m giddy when I think about being a part of their wedding in few months.
Enjoy. 🙂
Okay… it’s time to get back after it – blogging, that is. I took a little rest from posting weddings and sessions over the holidays, but break time is over. 🙂
I’m really excited to share Justin and Kristin’s wedding from the Manor House in Littleton. First, because Justin and Kristin are such fantastic people. Linsey and I are really grateful for all the incredible couples (not to mention their friends and family) that we get to work with.
Second, being a part of this wedding was fun. Justin is deceptively quiet. He talks soft and he’s quick, so you have to pay attention – and if you do pay attention, he’s hilarious. I spent a lot of the day laughing in the background at what he said under his breath. Kristin is disarmingly sweet and has a smile that makes you smile right back at her without even realizing it. They are the kind of couple that sets you at ease and help you enjoy life a little more.
Their wedding was a reflection of this. Everyone had a great time, laughed a lot, and enjoyed each other. It really was an honor to be a part of!
Linsey’s been telling me to read this book, ‘Steal Like An Artist’ for about a year. (here it is on amazon, if you’re so inclined.)
“ya. ya. I’ll get to it.” has been my answer to her incessant hounding. incessant… hounding.
Well, I got to it. It’s awesome. So I’m writing it out, in print, for the world to see: Linsey was right.
This once. 🙂
(Linsey – I can hear your smiling all the way from my office as I write this. Tell your husband I’m sorry I encouraged you.)
Annnnyway. One of my many favorite ideas/quotes I’ve snagged from this book has to do with sharing your process. ‘Your process’ being how you go about being creative and creating and all that.
A little piece of my process has to do with taking pictures whenever I can, of whatever I can, to stay sharp and to get better. I usually have a theme in mind that I’m practicing. Lately, my theme has been really trying to use light with dark to make the mundane look interesting. Here’s a few from yesterday morning. (Just to be clear, nothing about my boy is mundane… he’s 2, pure energy, and unfathomably cute. Eating oatmeal, however, is about as mundane as it gets.)
