*This post definitely requires a disclaimer. I am notoriously dumb at movies. I simply have under-developed taste when it comes to what makes a movie good or bad. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not saying I only like bad movies. I’m saying there’s really no consistency or rhyme or rhythm to what I like. Some of my favorites include Big Daddy, Flushed Away, Iron Man, Ocean’s 11, and Notting Hill. I found Inception ‘just okay’, didn’t get all the hype around Braveheart, and enjoyed The Last Samurai. But whatever, I digress. Perhaps more on that in a later blog.
On to the Christmas movies.
Christmas is just around the corner and will be gone way too quickly. With that in mind, there are certain things I look for to help the Christmas season make it’s mark. Watching certain Christmas movies is part of that process. Here’s what I’m looking forward to this year…
1. How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The new one, not the old one. It’s so good. I especially like the scene where the grinch is delivering mail in the mail room.
2. Elf. If you don’t like this movie, you should. It was an instant classic. I don’t need to explain why.
3. The Santa Clause. Quality Christmas programming. To be honest, I think it’s a bit overlooked these days. I really like how Tim Allen makes fun of that guy’s sweater.
4. Scrooged. This is really the only movie I like because of it feels ‘traditional’ to me. You’ll notice I don’t have A Christmas Story and It’s a Wonderful Life on here. We just didn’t watch them when I was a kid. We did, however, appreciate Bill Murray and his comedic genius. Hence, Scrooged.
5. Family Stone. Okay, this is where most people look at Kristi and I weird. We both love it. I know it’s a little depressing but it makes me think about what’s important and I dig that.
My friend over at jerranwolf.com (coincidentally named Jerran Wolf – go figure) has a list out too. 3 of my 5 made his list, which is saying something because he has a reputation for having good taste in movies…
So whatever does it for you, start it up, because Christmas will be gone before you know it!
Oh, and tomorrow night I’m watching Jim Carry’s A Christmas Carol. I haven’t seen it or really heard anything about it. We’ll see how it goes.
