Balistreri Vineyards Wedding: Nick and Natalie

Hidden away in the middle of Denver is the fantastic Balistreri Vineyards. It’s a cool little place tucked back in what seems to be a mostly industrial area. Immediately, it’s charm is disarming… which makes perfect sense once you meet the family that owns the establishment.

Linsey and I had never had the opportunity to shoot at a place like this, and while the grapes aren’t grown here, Balistreri has unique and interesting elements that are fun to work with. The family even let us down into the cellar area where the wine is processed for some photography!

As a wedding photographer, I love how weddings seems to always work out just the way they need to for the couple getting married. There are so many intricate parts to design, from table toppers to flower arrangements, from coordinating colors to organizing the schedule. In the midst of all the planning, it’s the little things that are out of bride and groom’s control that always fascinate me. Like how Natalie loves cats and there just happened to be a cat at Balistreri that wanted to play with us while we were taking pictures. In the last 4 years, I can’t remember a time I’ve had a cat involved in a wedding shoot. A raccoon and a moose, but no cats. Yet, for Nick and Natalie, Milkshake the cat comes strolling in just to make the day that much more perfect for them. 🙂

I love Linsey’s work on these next two bridal portraits!

Engagement Session: Alec and Amber

Rock Ledge Ranch in Colorado Springs is pretty cool.

I’d never been been there before. It’s just past Garden of the Gods… which I’ve visited many times… but never kept going. It’s an old, old ranch that has been restored to include a museum and host a number of events throughout the year. The architecture is great, especially for something like an engagement session. If you’re at all into Colorado history, it might be worth a trip – or at least a click.

Alec and Amber have adopted a ‘bicycle built for two’ theme for their wedding and happened to provide a vintage two seater bike for the session. It was pretty sweet. A little too old to be used, but still fun for the pictures. It fit perfectly with moody light and historic venue we were working with.

I really enjoyed getting to know Alec and Amber as we explored Rock Ledge Ranch. Now I’m excited for their wedding!
