Engagement Session: Justin and Starr

I love this couple. I enjoy watching how they fit together.

Starr… a little feisty. Justin… the definition of laid back. It’s so much fun to see the dynamics play out. She rocks high heels and he goes with the flow. She might be just a little sassy and he takes it all in.

Justin hails from Hawaii and is currently working on Starr to move back. I (along with everyone else, I’m sure) was very interested to talk with someone who actually grew up in a tropical paradise. I even suggested a destination wedding ‘back home’, but that doesn’t seem likely.

My biggest takeaway from asking Justin about life on the islands? Milk is super expensive.

For reals. It seems that it’s more affordable to eat out then to eat in when you live in Hawaii. At first glance, I thought this would make it difficult to live there. Upon further reflection, however, that seems to fit my current lifestyle. I would love to explain to people, “Sorry. We can’t eat at home tonight. We’re on a budget!”

I can’t wait for their upcoming wedding at the Manor House in Littleton, Colorado.

Engagement Session: Justin and Samantha

Samantha is an old friend, from before my photography days, so I’m excited for the opportunity to shoot her wedding this year along with her engagement session. I’d met Justin just briefly by coincidence while walking through Vail after another wedding we’d shot last year, but this was our first opportunity to get to know each other.

I’m so happy for Samantha after getting to know Justin. He’s a great guy. Which is good, because Samantha is pretty amazing, herself!

They fit well together and really know how to laugh. At one point, I asked how they would describe their relationship. Without skipping a beat, the response was (I believe), ‘dorky’.

“What?”

“We’re dorks. :)”

(Samantha didn’t actually say ‘smiley face’, but she was smiling when she said it…)

I love it. They even make me smile!

After The Wedding Session: Josh and Amy

I was thrilled that Josh and Amy wanted to do a ‘day after’ session because I’ve had so much fun taking their pictures. I’ve really enjoyed spending time with them through the engagement session and the wedding day, and now I’ll be sad to see them move! At the same time, I’m excited that Josh is on his way to becoming an incredible doctor who will undoubtably have a massive impact on many lives. (They’re moving for med school…)

And fortunately, we’ll get to hang out next fall at another wedding in Princeton, NJ!

For this last ‘day after’ session Amy put on her fabulous wedding dress, Josh got all cleaned up, and once again we took off in pursuit of soft images. :)(Check out this earlier post for insight into the idea of soft.) Although this time, I asked permission to perhaps stray a bit from the soft images we went for at the Highlands Ranch Mansion Wedding earlier this year.

I really love what we came away with. To compliment their snowy wedding day, we had sunshine. And best of all? It was way above freezing!

Denver Engagement Session: Zach and Katie

Okay, it’s obvious even if you’ve only seen pictures and never really met her… Katie’s laugh and smile can light up a room. What I love is how easily Zach brings that out of her. These two fit together. They clearly compliment each other and they were so fun to photograph!

For their engagement session, we wanted something a little urban so we went to one of my favorite spots downtown. It just so happens to be right across from where Katie works. A quick phone call and few pulled strings and we found ourselves finishing the session on a rooftop with an incredible view. (Thanks Katie!)

While Katie’s smile is contagious, I think her serious look stole the show… 🙂
