Highland Engagement Session: Courtney & Tommy

Tommy, Courtney, and I met for drinks at cool little bar in the Highlands just before the engagement session. We hadn’t met in person yet, so we thought it would be fun to get to know each other a little more before we jumped into the pictures.

It was an amazing day to be in Denver. Especially for winter. One of those gorgeous, ‘I’m so thankful we live in Colorado where it’s warm out and the east coast is getting burried in snow’ type of afternoons.

This is one of things that makes my job so awesome, at least for me. I really love hanging out with and getting to know my couples.

There are a lot of things to talk about that revolve around the wedding day. A lot of (sometimes necessary) cliche questions I’m supposed to ask:

  • “How did you two meet?”
  • “How did he propose?”
  • “How long have you been together?”

And those are fine questions. Good, even. They certainly have their place and I honestly enjoy hearing about couples in the midst of all the excitement surrounding a wedding.

But they’re a ‘given’. They’re questions everyone asks. I like the bonus stuff. I like the ‘who are you normally?’ type of information.

For example, Tommy and Courtney love good food. Especially sushi, which is near to my heart. I made notes and have a new place in Wash Park to check out.

They’re into CrossFit. It’s totally working for them. I left inspired to throw some tires around.

Courtney has a twin sister who is also getting married this year. How cool is it that the twin sisters are getting married just weeks apart? (Maybe a little rough on Dad, but a great story!)

It doesn’t take a high degree of perception to get why Tommy and Courtney are together. A few minutes around them and you say to yourself, “Ya, that makes sense. These two should be together.”

It’s fun to watch how aware Tommy is of Courtney. I’m not sure how else to explain that. I watched it happen a lot. It’s more than just holding a door open. You probably have to see it to understand. And she’s crazy for him. It’s written all over her face when she looks at him. Or laughs with him. Or talks about him.

It was a fun session that wound up ending across I25 in Downtown Denver, one of my favorite places to work. I love the contrast it provided from the little church we started at across the street. Tommy and Courtney are so great to work with. I can’t wait for their wedding!
