Littleton Wedding: Anna and Rob

I often explain to brides and grooms when we meet to talk about their wedding day that I love to be more of a friend coming to take pictures of their wedding than just a vendor.

I like to catch the stories behind the things that are important. Beyond just want I notice, I try to put myself in the shoes of close family and friends to see what they see. I try to stay focused on all that’s happening more than simply looking for a ‘cool’ shot. I think it makes for better photography and a more ‘true’ retelling of the story.

Because of this, I found myself shooting through blurry, tear filled eyes a few times during Anna and Rob’s wedding.

For a lot of reasons.

For starters, the mother/son dance always gets me. Seeing Rob’s mom bury her into her son’s shoulder got me. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I have a son of my own who is growing up too fast. But I’m not his mother. I don’t know. Let’s move on from that.

I was also blessed to shoot Anna’s sister and brother-in-law’s wedding in Estes Park a few years back. Since then, I’ve been able to watch their new life together. Now they have a gorgeous, new little baby that I finally got to meet in person.

After Tricia’s (Anna’s sister’s) wedding, I was again blessed to shoot an incredible family session with everyone where I met Rob for the first time. He and Anna were only dating… although engagement was obviously imminent. To this day, it’s one of the most profoundly impacting sessions on me, personally, that I’ve had the pleasure of shooting.

In general, I struggle to explain what happens as I try to tell the stories of a couple’s life and relationships through my camera lens. I get to watch them closely, studying their interactions and expressions, seeing what makes them smile, laugh, and sometimes cry.

It’s a unique connection that causes me to take ownership of and root for my clients.

Along the way, I’ve gotten to know this particular family… even if it’s been kind of from the outside and, most of the time, through a lens. They’ve trusted me with the honor of observing and documenting important moments over the last few years. And I’ve seen that they’re really an amazing, inspiring group of people with wonderful hearts.

I’m so thankful to have been able to celebrate, laugh, and even cry a little with the family as Anna and Rob began their new life together. Thank you so much for inviting me in!
